What’s in Store at Food Ingredients Europe 2017

Between November 28 and 30, Frankfurt, Germany, becomes the capital of food ingredients, including those for the bakery industry. Food Ingredients Europe & Natural Ingredients (FiE & Ni) bring together the world’s leading food and beverage suppliers, research and development, production and marketing specialists and showcase the most diverse range of new and innovative ingredients and services.

Four halls spanning 65,000 sqm of exhibition space will give more than 1,500 suppliers a stage from which to showcase every conceivable food and beverage ingredient sourced from all over the world

Innova Market Insights will present the industry trends during the Conference program in Messe Frankfurt, with topics such as “Beyond Clean Label: Clean Supreme”,  “Top 10 Trends” and “Highlighting Consumer Trends in South East Asia”. Highlighted features of the research company are “The New Product Zone” (between hall 8 and 9) containing an analysis of major themes in NPD formulation and packaging innovations from around the world. “Ingredients in Action” (Stand: 8.OC27) features an application tasting bar that allows visitors to sample a wide array of commercial products from around the world.

The pre-event Future of Nutrition Summit takes place on November 27 and includes a plenary session and presentations on two types of topics: “Shaping the future of nutrition in Europe” and “Highlighting pioneering innovation from across the globe”.

The conference program, starting on November 28, is also split into major subjects as “Clean label & natural ingredients (part I and part II)”, “Food safety & regulatory compliance”, “Master class everything protein”, “Health & wellness”, “Master class: life stages”, “Master class category innovation: dairy, bakery & beverages”, “Reduction & reformulation” and “Master class sustainability”.

“Thought Leadership”, the guiding concept for this year’s Food ingredients Europe, is echoed in the 2017 Fi Europe Innovation Awards. With 10 newly-created categories spanning all industry sectors, the awards recognize and reward the ability to demonstrate and stimulate innovation.

New Product Zone

The New Product Zone showcases product innovations from leading industry players and provides the perfect opportunity to give new ingredients the introduction they deserve to the market. This popular area has become a trendsetting spot for the nutrition industry.

Here, companies including All organic Treasures Gmbh, AVEBE, Dutch Spices, Fiberstar, Naturis SpA, present their newest launches.

The winners will be announced at the festive Awards ceremony on Tuesday November 28 at Messe Frankfurt. There are 10 categories within the Fi Europe Innovation Awards 2017 contest:

At FiE 2017, Cargill’s focal point of the stand will be a “MarketPlaza” where food manufacturers will be able to interact with dedicated specialists and discover how the company helps fuel sustainable business growth by implementing new ideas and helping customers create successful new products integrating emerging market trends. Mühlenchemie GmbH & Co. KG will present solutions that enable mills to treat their flours in such a way that they meet customers’ demands in respect of both quality and economy. This year, the flour treatment specialists will focus on the challenges resulting from a changing raw material situation. The latest compositions of enzymes and other active substances to be shown in Frankfurt are in the form of toolboxes and offer flexible solutions to compensate for quality deficits in flours, adjust the Falling Number, achieve optimum loaf volume and reduce the amount of gluten added. This enables mills to react to fluctuations in the price of raw materials and offer good results from baking. (Stand 08.0C61)

OlbrichtArom GmbH & Co. KG will present several new fruity, sweet and savory flavorings and natural citrus peel pastes, for baked goods, sweets, dairy products and deli foods. All flavorings and peel pastes are initially tested at the Technology Centre of the parent company, the Stern-Wywiol Gruppe in Hamburg, in laboratories covering an area of 3,000sqm. (Stand 08.0C61)

Solvay Aroma Performance will display its global vanillin, ethylvanillin, functional & natural solutions at the 2017 Food Ingredients Europe.

The cooperative group Tereos is a union of 12,000 farmers and has recognized know-how in the processing of beet, sugarcane and cereals. Tereos offers a wide range of plant-based sweetening solutions, using over 400 sweetening ingredients, from sugar and cereal-based sweeteners to stevia extracts, with a range of low and no calorie options, to meet every type of food processing. Some of them will be presented at FiE 2017.

Taura Natural Ingredients will demonstrate at FiE & Ni that natural fruit and vegetable pieces are the ideal way to reduce added sugar without compromising on taste. Visitors to Taura’s stand will be offered a 30% reduced added sugar cookie containing the company’s real fruit pieces. They will be able to compare it with a full-sugar cookie and a reduced added sugar cookie without fruit pieces. (No. 11.0F98)

Almond Board of California’s products can be seen at Booth 09.0G6, where the company invites visitors to discover the latest updates from the almond industry sustainability program, highlights from the consumer sustainability research, and participate in one-on-one California Almond Solution Sessions. Food innovation chef Stephan Schmitz will use the latest consumer, trends and sustainability research to showcase the flavor, sensory attributes and versatility of almonds.

This year, Roquette also welcomes visitors to its CREATILICIOUS™ food truck. Visitors are invited to try a menu of new food concepts especially created by the company’s food application experts and to see first-hand how they address consumer needs and trends. By inviting visitors to the Creatilicious™ food truck, the Roquette’s team brings the technical and nutritional benefits of its ingredients to vibrant life. The team will share in-depth information at Booth F43, Hall 8.

Emulsifiers can help improve product sustainability, considers Palsgaard, which invites visitors to its Supplier Solution Session on how to “Make the Change” with sustainable emulsifiers; the event is held Wednesday, November 19, at 16.00 in the Discovery Theatre. (Booth 080H4)

Glanbia Nutritionals will again put its high-quality bar solutions in the spotlight at FiE & Ni. The company introduces a new bar that combines quinoa, oat flakes and flaxseed for healthy, indulgent snacking. Aimed at Millennials and super seed fans, the bar contains OatPure™ gluten-free oat flakes, quinoa flakes and almonds providing a slow release of carbohydrates. The bar can be enjoyed between meals for a natural health boost, according to Glanbia.

DeutscheBack GmbH & Co. KG will present a wide range of new products and baking concepts at the trade fair. Enzyme-based baking concentrates and premixes make it possible to prolong the shelf life of bakery products or put new items for health-conscious consumers on the market that conform to the Health Claims regulation, according to the company. DeutscheBack will be showing two products – TopBake Protein Kick and TopBake Winter Bread – that give bread and rolls an extra benefit. (Stand 08.0C61)

At Food Ingredients Europe 2017, SternEnzym GmbH & Co. KG will introduce solutions for making food production processes more efficient and more economical. One focus of the presentation by the enzyme designer from Ahrensburg, near Hamburg, will be on novel applications in the fields of bakery products and pasta and the avoidance of acrylamide. The enzyme systems from the Sternzym BK range improve the processability of the doughs, enhance the structure of the biscuits and also reduce the tendency towards cracking and blistering, according to the company.

Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) brings a variety of on-trend and tasty concepts to this year’s Fi Europe. At ADM’s stand 08.0L49, attendees are invited to taste a wide range of foods and beverages that meet consumers’ ever-evolving needs. ADM’s technical advisors will be on hand throughout the show to discuss its full portfolio of flavorful, colorful, functional and nutritious ingredients, with a focus on its newly extended range of sweetening solutions to help with sugar and calorie reduction, adding body or mouthfeel or achieving a clean label claim.
