Danisco proposes new vision for sustainable food PDF Print E-mail

Danisco will showcase future opportunities for food manufacturers to reduce their environmental footprint at the Sustainability & Ethical Sourcing virtual trade show on 18 March.

As consumers display an increasing level of environmental awareness in their purchases, a trustworthy sustainable product claim is becoming a strong competitive parameter for the food industry.

Danisco has been recognised as a world sustainability leader by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the last nine consecutive years.

To help manufacturers promote sustainability in their production, Danisco currently offers 70 climate-friendly solutions. The next step for the company is to quantify the potential sustainability benefits in customer applications.

"We use life cycle assessments (LCA) as a tool to document the improvements our ingredients provide, for example in terms of reduced CO2 emissions," says Dr. Mikkel Thrane, LCA expert at Danisco.

"We are also conducting LCA studies of our ingredients to evaluate their environmental impact from ‘farm to fork'."

Danisco will highlight these initiatives and opportunities during a webinar at the virtual trade show. Visitors can also browse the virtual company stand and chat with sustainability experts.

"Where we say we reduce or minimise environmental impact, we now want to be able to quantify the reductions in footprint our customers can obtain when they use our ingredients," says Ian Fairs, who is coordinating Danisco's sustainable food applications project.

Ian Fairs and Mikkel Thrane will host the webinar, entitled "Catalyzing sustainability through food ingredients", on 18 March at 1.30pm GMT (2.30pm CET, 5.30am PST).
