The Co-operative Group is to launch its first specific own-label free-from range to meet "increasing demand" for gluten- and wheat-free foods.

The line, which includes fusilli pasta, muffins and ciabatta rolls, will be sold in the UK retailer's larger stores from Monday, reported just-food.

The development of the range follows The Co-op's moves earlier this year to reformulate sausages and burgers under its premium own-label brand Truly Irresistible to be free from gluten and wheat.

"The demand for gluten and wheat-free products has risen recently, as more people choose to avoid them in their diet out of personal preference, as well as for health reasons," said Kate Jones, The Co-op's head of own-brand products.
