Preventing food and packaging waste - conference PDF Print E-mail
Written by admin

Where is all this food and packaging waste coming from - and what can be done to stop it?

These will be the two main themes at Campden BRI's food waste conference (see http://www.campden.co.uk/food-waste-conference.htm) to be held on 30th November 2011.

Conference director, Lynneric Potter, explains the background to the event: "Approximately 18 million tonnes of food is wasted each year: two thirds of this occurs before it reaches the consumer. Most of this waste is attributed to damage to food and packaging in the supply chain. A balance needs to be struck between reducing the amount of packaging used, and its vital role in preventing food waste.

"Packaging can also be specifically designed to help prevent waste. In this conference, we will be highlighting key areas of damage and waste, and giving recommendations and methods to reduce waste in the supply chain. Key players within the supply chain will share with the audience what they are doing to reduce food and packaging waste."
