The Real Bread Loaf Mark launches in the UK PDF Print E-mail
Written by admin

A new survey by the Real Bread Campaign of 1300 people around the UK found that more than 71% of us believe it's unacceptable that food additives known as ‘processing aids' don't have to appear on an ingredients list.

It also found that more than 70% of us believe it's unacceptable that an ingredient/additives list doesn't have to be displayed for unwrapped loaves.

Real Bread Campaign co-ordinator Chris Young said: "These results support the Campaign's call for an Honest Crust Act.

"The people of Britain have the right to know what goes into the loaves we buy. When shopping we should have the chance to make fully-informed choices about the food we feed our families.

"Sadly, some manufacturers and retailers choose to hide unnecessary additives behind current EU legislation depriving us of this basic right. Surely Britain can do better than that?"

Whilst continuing to fight for greater transparency, on October 3 the Real Bread Campaign launched The Real Bread Loaf Mark. This will allow people on the go to see at-a-glance that a baker says this is Real Bread, which 85% of respondents to the survey, carried out by Toluna QuickSurveys, said would be useful.

Real Bread Campaign ambassador Tom Herbert of Hobbs House Bakery said: "The Real Bread Loaf Mark will be a great help for busy shoppers who want to buy delicious, wholesome, additive-free loaves for their families."
