Primera Launches Purpose-Built Edible Sheet Printer for Bakeries

Primera Technology has introduced Connie, a purpose-built printer for producing edible images on frosting sheets, targeting commercial kitchens, cottage bakeries and home users.

The company is positioning the system as an alternative to consumer inkjet printers converted for use with edible inks, which have traditionally been used by bakeries and cake decorators for this type of application.

Connie has been designed to meet the requirements for NSF certification for commercial kitchen use. The certification process is currently underway, with Primera expecting it to be completed before the first printers are shipped.

The printer incorporates FDA-approved food-contact materials throughout the ink and sheet-contact pathway, while its construction uses commercial-grade stainless steel. Factory-filled edible ink cartridges are manufactured in a cGMP-certified facility.

Primera has also incorporated automated maintenance routines and a clog-resistant print head, designed to address print-head clogging associated with edible ink printing.

Connie offers a native print resolution of 1200 dpi and a maximum resolution of 1200 × 4800 dpi. It can handle frosting sheets ranging from 8.5 × 11 inches (A/A4) to 11 × 17 inches (A3/B-size), with support for both continuous sheets and pre-cut formats.

The system is intended for applications including full-sheet cake decorations, cake wraps and individual images for cupcakes and other baked products.
