Natural Foods Orders Recall Due to Salmonella

American company Outpost Natural Foods, Milwaukee-based, has ordered a recall of several bakery and confectionery items due to the discovery of Salmonella and other health concerns.

A routine inspection by the City of Milwaukee and Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection found the bacteria in ready-to-eat products made at their central production kitchen.  The inspection also found unsafe food handling practices that could pose a public health risk.

The co-op has announced that all production at this facility has ceased while they determine the origin of the bacteria.

They are recalling any prepared foods and bakery items that were made at this facility August 19-23.  Some items include cold salads, pizzas, wraps, ready-to-heat entrees such as burritos, pot pies, savory turnovers, select hot bar items and Outpost labeled bakery items. There have been no reports of illness to date.
