Kellogg’s Announces Waffle Recall

Kellogg’s has shut down one of its US food plants after the discovery of listeria in one of its waffle products.

The company stopped production of Buttermilk Eggo Waffles at its Atlanta facility and issued a recall notice after officials from the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) found listeria monocytogenes in a food sample.

The potentially tainted waffles had been delivered to retail outlets nationwide, however no illnesses have been reported to date.

Kellogg’s has launched an investigation into plant hygiene to determine the cause of the contamination and the plant will be cleaned and sanitised under supervision from the GDA before resuming production.

The discovery was made after a laboratory test by the safety watchdog during a routine inspection found the potentially deadly bug.
