Criminal and internal investigation at Kellogg’s factory in Memphis

Kellogg’s started an internal investigator after a video posted online showed a man filming himself urinating on products on an assembly line. The company also announced FDA to start a criminal investigation in this case.

The company mentions that the internal investigation revealed that the video was filmed in 2014, in the plant in Memphis, Tennesse. Many dedicated people on the Memphis team spent countless hours examining the video and identified differences between the line in the video and the current line, which enabled the company to confirm that the video was actually filmed in 2014.
“We immediately contacted law enforcement authorities and the FDA, and a criminal investigation is underway. We are working closely with the authorities to identify the individual, fire him if he still works at the plant and prosecute him to the full extent of the law”, says Paul Norman, the president of Kellogg North America.
He mentions that the company identified the food potentially involved and determined that any products that could have been potentially impacted would be very limited and past their expiration dates. These include Rice Krispies Treats, granola clusters used in a couple of products, and a few other puffed rice treats that are not produced anymore.
“While this behavior was disgusting and criminal, this type of situation is a food quality issue and does not present a food safety risk”, Normal added.
Kellogg underlines that food quality is of the utmost importance to the company, which was founded on the values of integrity and accountability. Paul Norman said that the video posted online “showed a disgusting act of disrespect for you – our consumers – as well as our thousands of employees”. “The actions of this individual violate the trust you’ve placed in us to make food for you and your family over the past 110 years. As President of Kellogg’s North American business, and on behalf of the 33,000 members of our Kellogg family around the world, I am deeply sorry and saddened”, he added.
