Nestle hope to reduce their carbon footprint with the opening of a new factory in the UK.
The facility in York , England, managed by Nestlé’s contract packing (co-packing) provider IPS, will provide a service to the whole of the Nestlé UK business.
Co-packers combine quantities of product, sometimes from different manufacturing locations, in one pack – for example Christmas selection boxes or supermarket displays.
In the past, Nestlé’s goods were sent to several co-packers in locations across the UK. With the move to York, the new venture brings co-packing to the doorstep of one of Nestlé’s largest distribution centres and will significantly reduce the need to transport stock around the country. The move will cut the need for around 4000 lorry journeys per year, equivalent to transporting goods around 300,000 lorry miles.
Paul Grimwood, CEO, Nestlé UK and Ireland said: “It makes sound environmental and business sense to bring Nestlé’s co-packing to one of our largest distribution centres.
“We are constantly driving greater efficiency through our business and opening this new site is a really positive step forward in reducing the number of road miles that our products travel.”
