Alfa Laval Launches AI-Based Condition Monitoring System for Hygienic Equipment

Alfa Laval has unveiled Clariot, a next-generation AI-powered condition monitoring system designed specifically for hygienic processing environments. The solution provides real-time diagnostics and performance insights for rotating equipment such as pumps and agitators, aiming to reduce downtime, extend equipment life, and optimise resource efficiency.

“We developed Clariot based on our extensive experience from more than 3,000 condition monitoring units already operating worldwide,” says Torsten Pedersen, Commercial Head Condition Monitoring at Alfa Laval Fluid Handling. “With new hardware and software, we can now offer a complete digital handshake, tailored for use in demanding hygienic processes.”

Reducing Costly Downtime

Unplanned equipment failures can cost manufacturers millions in lost production, waste, and maintenance. By delivering round-the-clock monitoring and early alerts, Clariot enables predictive maintenance and supports continuous operation.

“In a world where every drop and every man-hour count, our customers increasingly seek solutions that improve uptime and productivity, while reducing resource waste. This is where Clariot makes a difference, helping manufacturers in hygienic industries prevent failures and run at full capacity without unnecessary interruptions,” says Torsten Pedersen.

Clariot combines hardware, AI-driven analytics, and secure connectivity to provide proactive diagnostics. Its VX sensors—uniquely developed for wet environments and frequent product changeovers—can detect process, installation, and mechanical faults before they escalate.

A Scalable, Secure Digital Solution

Part of Alfa Laval’s broader digitalisation strategy, Clariot supports predictive maintenance across manufacturing sites while remaining independent of internal business-critical systems, ensuring maximum cybersecurity.

“We firmly believe that predictive maintenance is the future of manufacturing, enabled by sensor data, AI-driven insights and digital connectivity. Time and time again we have seen how our condition monitoring solutions have alerted operators to potential failures before they happen and enabled predictive maintenance strategies,” says Torsten Pedersen.

Clariot is compatible with most pump brands and is easy to install. Alfa Laval highlights that for a setup with 50 pumps, avoiding just one unplanned stop per quarter could save up to EUR80,000 annually—while the Clariot solution costs less than one tenth of that amount.

“In a setup with 50 pumps, just one unplanned stop per quarter can result in annual losses up to 80,000 euros, while the solution from Alfa Laval costs less than one tenth of that scenario, delivering a fast payback time,” says Torsten Pedersen.

Clariot Highlights:

  • AI-based diagnostics tailored for hygienic environments
  • 24/7 monitoring of pumps and rotating equipment
  • VX sensors designed for wet processes and frequent changeovers
  • Seamless integration with Clariot Connect and analytics
  • Standalone, cybersecure system compliant with IEC 62443-3-3 SL1
  • Scalable across sites and factories for benchmarking and deployment
  • Use of Clariot can extend equipment warranty when maintained per recommendations

Clariot is pre-mounted on select Alfa Laval pumps and is now available globally.
