Primera Technology has introduced Freddie, The Frosting Machine, a robotic system designed to automate the process of piping and flooding royal icing onto cookies and other confectionery products.
The system combines precision robotics with digital vision technology to deliver consistent icing results across cookies and confections of different shapes and sizes. According to the company, Freddie scans each item to capture its exact contours before automatically outlining and flooding the icing, removing the need for manual piping.
Freddie is a professional-grade, NSF-certified system aimed at bakeries, cottage food producers and larger commercial operations looking to improve efficiency in decorated cookie production. The equipment includes a carousel and tray system that allows multiple cookies or confections to be loaded simultaneously, enabling continuous, unattended operation.
By automating the icing stage—typically one of the most labour-intensive steps in decorated cookie production—the system is designed to increase throughput, improve consistency and reduce labour requirements.
Freddie is designed to operate alongside Eddie, The Edible Ink Printer, Primera’s direct-to-food printing system used to apply full-colour images, text and designs onto cookies, macarons, confectionery and other edible products. The company says the two systems together provide an automated solution for producing decorated cookies and confectionery at scale.
Primera manufactures specialty printing and automation equipment used in food decoration and labelling applications.
