Five years of European bakery innovation on Dutch soil

EBIC, the European Bakery Innovation Centre, will be celebrating its fifth anniversary on 13th September.

EBIC opened its doors to ingredient suppliers, machine manufacturers, bakeries and consumers in 2006.

Its most important objective is the exchange of knowledge in order to allow bakeries to continue to develop. The annual international Harvest Transition Seminar is tangible proof of this knowledge exchange’s success. EBIC is an initiative set up by Sonneveld Group B.V., supplier of bakery ingredients.

Sonneveld believes that sharing knowledge and partnerships are tomorrow’s success for entrepreneurs in the bakery chain. This is why considerable investments went into a knowledge and innovation centre in 2006.

There is a dynamic interaction between suppliers, researchers and bakeries, both at national and international level. Entrepreneurs can use the centre for technology and application knowledge and many (inter)national workshops and seminars are organised too. EBIC is a platform for sector partners who want to work on a healthy future for the European bakery sector.

The harvest transition seminar is one of the most highly attended EBIC events. The event provides the decision makers in the sector with an accurate image of the European wheat quality every autumn. Dr. Ir. Peter Weegels, a prominent technologist and General Manager at EBIC, is the driving force behind this annual event. EBIC will be organising the fifth Harvest Transition Seminar on 6th October 2011.

“EBIC stands for five years of successful innovations in a sector full of tradition” according to Ed Trommels, Commercial Manager at EBIC. “We are very proud of the role EBIC plays with stimulating the salt discussion in our sector, to name just one example. The salt workshops have helped a large number of bakeries. Another example is the technology which enables bakers to reprocess bread. This technology was invented and developed within EBIC”
