Processors Face New Laws In China

Keeping a thorough record of all food processing procedures is just one of the laws food processors must now abide by under a new food safety regulation effective from 27 July 2009.
The regulation, part of the Food Safety Act that came into force on June 1, is the latest move by China to improve its damaged reputation following a number of food contamination scandals in the last few years.
Food processors must also improve traceability by logging data on procurement of raw materials according to Chinese State media. The regulation, part of the implementation of the Food Safety Law, also emphasises the importance of supervision by health authorities and applies to distributors in the supply chain, food processors and food manufacturers.
