Exclusive interview: The International Union of Bakers and Confectioners sets the industry agenda

Economic and social policies, marketing and publicity, as well as vocational training, were among the topics on the agenda of the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners (UIBC) first World Congress, hosted by Polagra-Tech in Poland. UIBC shares exclusive insights into the organization’s strategies and industry directions, following the Congress held in October in Poznań.

The International Union of Bakers’ and the International Union of Confectioners’ global organizations merged last year during a congress in Granada, creating the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners (UIBC), which today represents more than 300,000 businesses and more than four million sector experts in 45 countries on five continents. Peter Becker, President of UIBC and of the German Bakers’ Confederation, chose Poland to host the first Congress of the Union after the integration to discuss economic and social policies, vocational training, promotion opportunities and more, including minimum wage and labeling regulations, the Junior World Championships 2015 and the marketing agenda.

Earlier this year, the organization also announced its partnership with the world’s leading trade fair for bakery, confectionery and snacks, iba, for the next edition of the triennial show held on September 12-17, 2015. “The newly founded UIBC joins the bakers and the confectioners craft worldwide, in a wider connection than other association. As a new partner of iba, this international trade fair will benefit from the wide global network of UIBC and, additionally, it will support the international importance of that top event of the craft,” said Peter Becker.
