Nestle to grow production in Africa

Nestle, the world’s largest food manufacturer, has announced plans to invest heavily in expanding its African production capacity.

Chief executive Paul Bulcke made the revelation at the opening of a new factory to produce the company’s Maggi stock cubes in the Nigerian state of Ogun.

“This latest investment is proof of our commitment to Africa – in which we will invest one billion Swiss francs ($1 billion) over the next two years,” Mr Bulcke said.
Nestle has had a presence in Nigeria for more than 50 years and its latest construction in Ogun marks the opening of its 27th factory in Africa.

Elsewhere in the world, Nestle recently acquired the British pharmaceuticals firm CM&D Pharma for an undisclosed sum, expanding its scientific division Nestle Health Science, which specialises in the development of new ingredients.
