The Bakery Cos. has acquired US-based food production company Steck Wholesale Foods, in Sioux City, South Dakota, for an undisclosed sum.
Steck bakes and distributes English muffins and biscuits for a range of customers, with a focus on leading grocery retailers and convenience stores. Its acquisition is the first for The Bakery Cos. — which was founded in 1996 by Cordia Harrington, the Post’s 2020 CEO of the Year, and has since grown to more than 500 people — under the umbrella of Arbor Investments, which completed a big investment last fall.
Steck’s leadership team will continue to run the business out of its existing plant. President Craig Stanley said his business can leverage The Bakery Cos.’ scale and build out its product portfolio.
“Steck is a hand-in-glove fit for The Bakery Cos. Their focus on manufacturing for retail customers is complementary to our existing strength in foodservice, and the South Dakota facility expands our geographic manufacturing footprint. We gain additional lines within our core English muffin and biscuit categories, which creates not only incremental capacity but also affords us both flexibility and redundancy in our manufacturing capabilities at geographically dispersed facilities,” Harrington said, quoted by nashvillepost.com.
