One of the UK’s biggest bakers recently announced that it is expanding its Stockton bakery operation, where it currently produces crumpets, by creating a dedicated Thin Bagel factory, according to Gazette Live. Since demand for the product has soared, Stockton is seeing a slice of the action, after the company confirmed an investment of GBP18m and the doubling of the jobs at its Yarm Road site.
A spokesperson for Warburtons said: “Due to increasing consumer demand for our Thin Bagels, we are investing in a new GBP18m Thin Bagel plant at our Stockton bakery. Works are underway and we expect the plant to be baking in Spring 2022. The new build will see the site increase by about 15% and eventually will enable us to double the number of people working on site, therefore around 30 new jobs will be created over time.”
Thin Bagels were launched by the plant baker in 2015.
