NFX UK Launches First National Platform to Accelerate Novel Foods Innovation

NFX UK, the country’s first dedicated network focused on advancing Novel Foods innovation, has officially launched its digital platform, marking a major step forward in supporting the development, regulation and commercialisation of next-generation food technologies.

Established by RSSL in collaboration with Imperial College London and The Supplant Company, and backed by Innovate UK, NFX UK aims to connect innovators with leading regulatory and scientific experts to streamline the UK’s Novel Foods approval process. The platform is designed to foster collaboration, accelerate product development, and promote best practices within a rapidly evolving food innovation landscape.

“With NFX UK, we’re bringing together the expertise, tools and networks needed to take sustainable, nutritious food technologies from concept to market,” said Jacinta George, Managing Director & VP at RSSL.

The platform includes a comprehensive Knowledge Hub, set to roll out in the coming months, offering:

  • The Novel Foods Roadmap: A clear, step-by-step guide to the UK’s regulatory process

  • Digital Resources: Insightful guidance, tools and trend analysis

  • Expert Directory: Access to a network of consultants, academics and technical specialists

  • Case Studies and Forums: Real-world examples and collaborative discussion spaces

NFX UK will also monitor evolving legislation—such as the implications of the UK-EU trade deal—and provide expert support to businesses navigating regulatory change.

Rodrigo Ledesma-Amaro of Imperial College London noted, “This platform will be instrumental in helping companies overcome regulatory challenges in areas like alternative proteins, aligning with our mission to advance science-led, sustainable food solutions.”

As part of the launch, NFX UK unveiled a new brand identity centred on collaboration, trust and sustainability. The initiative’s first major conference will take place in September 2025, bringing together key players to explore the future of Novel Foods in the UK and beyond.
