Puratos and AMF Bakery Systems have launched a new pilot bakery plant at Puratos’ U.S. headquarters in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The facility, officially opened on 9 June, is designed to accelerate innovation for commercial bakeries across North America by combining Puratos’ ingredients expertise with AMF’s bakery automation technology.
The pilot plant is located within Puratos’ Innovation Center, enabling seamless collaboration between customers, technical bakers, and equipment specialists. It features a full suite of industrial-scale equipment for rapid prototyping, recipe testing, and hands-on training. The goal is to reduce development time and eliminate the need for costly line trials by enabling bakeries to go from concept to commercialization in a single visit.
At the launch event, attended by representatives from the American Bakers Association, local government, and industry stakeholders, guests toured the facility and witnessed live demonstrations of the integrated setup.
“This facility responds to the challenge of limited line time and baking skills that can slow innovation in industrial environments,” said Andrew Brimacombe, President of Puratos USA. “It allows bakers to develop, test, and scale products with greater speed and confidence.”
Customers will also have access to trend insights from Puratos’ Taste Tomorrow research and its sensory analysis capabilities to refine products in line with consumer demand.
Puratos Global CEO Pierre Tossut highlighted the significance of the partnership with AMF: “This collaboration enables faster innovation and will serve as a model for further global partnerships that help move the industry forward.”
The pilot bakery is now open for innovation workshops, technical training, and project-based work focused on recipe development, ingredient optimisation, and cost reduction. Conveniently located 30 minutes from Philadelphia International Airport, it is geared to support visiting partners with modern co-creation spaces and full hospitality.
