Rewe Group, the owner of German supermarket chain Rewe, plans to dissolve its total of 110 bakeries of the house brand “Glockenbrot”, at the beginning of the next year.
Instead, Rewe would like to sublet the sales area partly to regional bakeries, the German press writes.
The move had already been suggested some time ago. In recent years, more and more bakery shops have been closed. The bakery Rothermel had already separated from the supermarket in 2015.
The Glockenbrot bakery has two production sites in Frankfurt and Bergkirchen in Bavaria. As it will no longer be possible to produce for the prepaid stores in the future, some of the 500 jobs will disappear in the Frankfurt plant.
