Schep’s Bakery Receives Expansion Grant from Canada’s Authorities

Schep’s Bakery in Norwich has been given a Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern (FedDev) Ontario grant of USD1.9m to expand, diversify to reach new markets, and create 17 new jobs.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages Kate Young visited the bakery for a cheque presentation. Shep’s will use the money to purchase an advanced waffle production and packaging line that will quadruple its current output. This will allow Schep’s to manufacture and package customized products, and diversify its product offerings.

Schep’s Bakeries Ltd. was established in 1984 and is a family-owned manufacturer of Double Dutch Syrup Waffles and other private label waffle cookies. It is run by Arie Schep and his sons Jacco, Peter, and Jonathan. They currently have over 60 workers at their 52,000sqf processing facility. President Jacco Schep said they are looking forward to the expansion.

“With this project, we can capitalize on significant opportunities to grow our business within the bakery and snack industry of North America. We want to thank the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario for sharing our vision for growth and supporting this important project and milestone in our company’s history,” Schep commented.
