UIBC Chooses World Baker of the Year and World Confectioner of the Year

Jochen Baier from Germany has been voted World Baker of the Year 2018 and Salvador Pla Petit from Spain is the chosen World Confectioner of the Year 2018, by the International Union of Bakers and Confectioners (UIBC).

The UIBC Presidium has made this choice after evaluating the final seven candidates from Germany, Iceland, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan regarding their achievements in terms of professional career, publications, success in competitions, marketing efforts and innovation activities in the bakery and confectionery trade.

“It was a very tight result, since all candidates had excellent credentials”, UIBC president Antonio Arias said. “Choosing the best among such great professionals is not an easy task and we congratulate all candidates for the wonderful work they are doing in and for the bakery and confectionery sector. “

In the end, it was Jochen Baier and Salvador Pla Petit who won the race. The World Baker and World Confectioner of the Year 2018 will receive their awards during the UIBC Congress 2018 at the iba trade show in Munich. They will create a special UIBC bread recipe and artistic piece or dessert for the gala dinner, during which they will receive their honors. Their mission during the year 2019 will then be to promote the profession and the work of the UIBC at public events and activities all over the globe.
