Flour Sales Surge in America

American bakers might face challenges in procuring ingredients, as the sale of flour has increased nationally about 220%.

The American Bakers Association said this can be attributed to more people stuck at home baking, as well as some people stocking up on dry goods, according to fox23maine.com.

“Once this became serious in people’s minds, there was a real drive to stock up and make sure people had supplies. You did see some localized outages with bakery products on the store shelves,” American Bakers Association CEO Robb MacKie said.

He says that flour is not in short supply, but rather the demand is increasingly high.

“The stores are being restocked, our members, as is the entire food supply chain, are working around the clock to continue to make sure we’re producing products. I fully expect that the individual one-pound bag of flour is going to be restocked very soon,” MacKie said.
