HQC Incorporated, a leading specialist in spouts and fitments for flexible packaging, has designed and supported the manufacturing of a new custom fitment for a spouted pouch for CSM Bakery Solutions’ DecoPro pre-packaged frosting.
DecoPro is a ready-to-use cake-decorating bag pre-filled with the company’s Brill buttercrème icings in a resalable format. The flexible package lets consumers bypass the pail-to-bag frosting method and achieve greater product-portion control.
HQC responded with an original fitment design and then focused on proving the part would work with the package contents and different piping tools.
To help CSM determine which fitment details would work best with the product, HQC 3D-printed multiple elements and inserted them into the pouches. Once the right elements were approved, HQC built a prototype molding tool and worked further with CSM on finishing modifications.
Next, HQC welded the new fitment into the pouch at its plant so the pouch manufacturer could test it at their facility. The testing identified additional details for HQC to make in finishing the optimal part for the pouch.
HQC president Blair Pasternak says: “Spouts and fitments are flexible packaging’s truly custom component, so most products begin with us. The part we provide has to be just right for other suppliers. It also makes us integral to each project’s following phases. That is why we are always prepared to serve our customers with solutions that position them to succeed from the start.”
