Italcanditi Group Releases First Consolidated Sustainability Report, Highlights Significant Progress

Italcanditi Group has published its inaugural consolidated Sustainability Report, marking a pivotal step in its commitment to sustainability. The report includes contributions from Comprital and Rubicone, acquired in 2019 and 2020, respectively, reflecting the Group’s comprehensive approach to sustainable development across all operations.

In 2023, the Group achieved several key milestones in sustainability. Both Italcanditi and Comprital received the Silver Medal from EcoVadis, a globally recognized rating agency for corporate sustainability, acknowledging their efforts and setting a benchmark for future progress.

Climate Impact Initiatives

Italcanditi Group has prioritized reducing its carbon footprint through renewable energy and operational efficiency. Photovoltaic systems installed at Italcanditi and Rubicone facilities generated 492 MWh of green energy, used internally for production processes. Additionally, a cogeneration power plant fueled by biogas from Italcanditi’s wastewater treatment plant supplied approximately 1,661 MWh to the national grid, reducing the carbon intensity of the energy mix.

Further underlining its environmental commitment, Italcanditi utilized 100% renewable energy for its operations, certified by Guarantees of Origin, and extended this practice to Comprital’s Italian sites. Investments in green energy contributed significantly to reductions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

The Group has also advanced packaging sustainability, with 85% of Italcanditi’s products delivered in reusable steel tanks, minimizing single-use materials. Rubicone’s introduction of an automatic dosing system for anhydrous creams reduced plastic waste by approximately 11 tons annually.

Responsible Sourcing

Sustainability in the supply chain is a core focus. Nearly 90% of Comprital and Rubicone’s suppliers, and 70% of Italcanditi’s, are based in Italy, fostering local economic support and ensuring product quality. The Group also prioritized ethical sourcing, with 96% of Italcanditi’s palm oil purchases in 2023 certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

Product Innovation

In response to evolving consumer preferences, the Group has championed innovation in its product lines. Italcanditi has replaced synthetic additives with natural alternatives and expanded its vegan offerings to cater to growing demand for plant-based products. Rubicone introduced the Fit Gelato line, offering options with reduced or no added sugar, while Comprital developed bespoke formulations and launched a training center with a digital library to support artisan clients.

Employee Well-being

The Group also underscores its commitment to its 472 employees. In 2023, over 2,800 hours of training were provided, covering topics such as GDPR compliance and whistleblowing policies. Employees benefit from enhanced contracts offering production bonuses and other benefits, reflecting Italcanditi’s dedication to fostering a positive and supportive workplace.

With its first Sustainability Report, Italcanditi Group reinforces its leadership in sustainable practices, signaling a commitment to ongoing improvement and innovation across its operations.
