Kellogg Company elects Richard W. Dreiling to board of directors

Kellogg Company announced the election of Richard W. Dreiling to its board of directors.

Dreiling previously served as chief executive officer of Dollar General Corporation, the nation’s largest small-box discount retailer, until his retirement in June 2015. He was also chairman of Dollar General from December 2008 to January 2016, and served as senior advisor from June 2015 to January 2016.

Dreiling brings more than 40 years of retail industry experience to the Kellogg Company board, with diverse experiences across the consumer discount, drug store and grocery sectors. This includes his 34-year tenure with Safeway, Inc. in roles that spanned marketing, manufacturing, distribution, merchandising and retail operations.
In addition to his membership on the Kellogg board of directors, Dreiling serves on the boards of Lowe’s Companies Inc., Aramark and PulteGroup Inc.
John Bryant, chairman and CEO of Kellogg Company, said: “Rick’s tremendous retail experience from his time with Dollar General and others, coupled with his incredible depth and breadth of knowledge leading retailers across multiple channels, will be of great benefit to our company.”
Just two days ago, Kellogg Company announced that it is voluntarily recalling certain varieties and limited dates of production of Mother’s, Keebler, Kellogg’s Special K brownies, Murray and Famous Amos snacks and cookies because they may contain undeclared peanut residue. Kellogg initiated the recall after its supplier, Grain Craft, recalled wheat flour that has the potential to contain low levels of peanut residue.
While consumers with severe peanut allergies should avoid the recalled products, the FDA has stated that the amount of peanut exposure from the flour is low and not expected to cause adverse health effects in the vast majority of peanut allergic consumers. The company has received no reports of related illness to date and is taking this action out of an abundance of caution.
