Fudges Bakery has wowed judges at the UK’S Quality Food Awards with its Cheddar Wafers which have been presented with a sought after Q Award.
The Quality Food Awards are known throughout the food industry for incredibly rigorous and stringent judging procedures and 2010 marked a landmark for the scheme with a record number of entries received across all categories.
With a history stretching back over 85 years, the Dorset bakery is world-renowned for its melt-in-the-mouth, moreish Cheddar Wafers, an innovative recipe unique to Fudges.
Sue Fudge, a third generation Fudges’ baker, commented: “This is such an amazing achievement for our bakery and we are absolutely thrilled to have been presented with a Q Award.
“Our Cheddar Wafers have long been a part of what we do at Fudges and this award is a real measure of the consistency, commitment and skill shown by our award-winning bakers.”
Judges of the Q Awards included top London chefs, food development experts, leading food retailers and food writers.
Each product was judged to a specific set of criteria; taste, flavour, texture, aroma, ingredients, innovation, packaging, presentation and price.
The judges were impressed with both the texture and balance of flavours of Fudges’ Cheddar Wafers commenting: “It’s a super wafer with plenty of cheese and a lovely smokiness of paprika coming through,” and “It’s light, flinty and crumbly, with a lovely mouth-feel. It’s a well-balanced biscuit with a good texture and a pleasingly long, cheesy aftertaste – a brilliant eat.”
