Panrico Workers to Discontinue Delivery of Products

Protests continue in Barcelona at the Spanish baker Panrico, following the company’s announcement to let go half their workforce and lower salaries by up to 40%.

A preliminary agreement has been reached with the UGT union, while the second one, which represents Panrico’s employees, CCOO, has not signed.

According to the negotiation terms, Panrico is to let 745 workers go, down from 918 announced initially. Additionally, the salaries will be reduced by a maximum of 18% by the end of the year and by another 15% by 2016.

The company previously warned the protesters that nobody is irreplaceable, according to our correspondent and local sources. Panrico also promised to assign production orders to factories that agreed to the salary cuts, said Carlos Gila, on behalf of the company.

Salary payments are still delayed, as some of the workers have only received € 200 for October, reports El Pais. They are now threatening to stop delivering Panrico products, including the popular donuts, by Thursday, November 21st, if they do not receive full salary payments by then.

The strike started on October 15th and is ongoing at the factory in Barcelona. More details regarding the Panrico workers’ strike can be found in the online magazine, World Bakers Digital.
