The ninth edition of INTERSICOP will provide an international showcase at which visitors will be able to discover the latest developments within the frozen dough sector.
The International Bakery, Pastry and Related Industries Show, which will stage its ninth edition between 24th and 28th March 2011 at Feria de Madrid, will continue to consolidate its committed support for the entire industry. Thus, this fair organised by IFEMA has already confirmed the participation of more than 170 direct participants.
The fair also enjoys the backing of the leading trade sector associations and companies, whilst the fair’s Organising Committee includes representatives of all the most important bodies in Spain within the bakery and pastry sectors and related industries. In this respect, we might mention ASEMAC, the Spanish Association of Frozen Dough Manufacturers, which has already provided a preview of the industry’s results in the year 2009.
Last year, for example, the industry witnessed a substantial increase in sales, coming to 3.3% in total. This figure is favourable, although Spain is still a fair way off the figures achieved throughout Europe in terms of the consumption and use of frozen dough. The boom that has been enjoyed by this product, which will play a prominent role within the framework of INTERSICOP 2011, is the result of the innovative capacity of this industry. In this sense, the frozen dough sector has gradually witnessed the emergence of new varieties of bread that are more healthy and more attractive, as well as various specific bread series for high-category restaurants.
ASEMAC is the association that brings together some 80% of the companies and nearly 90% of the sales within Spain’s frozen dough sector. This business sector provides direct employment to some 5,000 professionals, having enjoyed an unstoppable rate of growth between the years 1993 and 2007. According to figures compiled by the Association itself, demand for frozen dough for bread and rolls has witnessed growth of more than 400%, which leads to a sales figure of more than 550,000 tonnes in productive terms and 830 million euros in turnover terms.
Such products undoubtedly meet the requirements of end consumers and professionals, with ready-to-bake frozen dough offering the decisive advantages of availability and rapidity. These factors have led the sector represented by ASEMAC to achieve a share of nearly 20% of the market regarding the total value of bakery products and a share of approximately 40% regarding the total volume of rolls consumed in Spain.
The year 2009 results furnished by ASEMAC nevertheless indicate a 5% decrease in the frozen roll figures. Among other factors, this drop could be due to current healthy-living trends and the popularity of “light” and “technical” foods, together with regulations regarding children’s nutrition.
Innovation, technology, new varieties of frozen bread and rolls, etc. … an entire universe of frozen dough products will play a leading role at INTERSICOP 2011. At this leading trade event in Spain, visitors will have the opportunity to discover some of the latest new developments and new experiences within the field, as well as acquiring know-how and learning how to generate new business opportunities, etc. These are all reasons why this fair has become the leading showcase for the bakery and pastry industry in Spain and one of the leading events of its kind in Europe.
