General Mills launches a new Star Wars- themed breakfast cereal

To celebrate the momentous day of “May the fourth (be with you)”, General Mills announced the launches of anew Star Wars- themed breakfast cereal.

Golden Valley-based General Mills announced the new cereal on Tuesday (May 4, aka Star Wars Day, because “May the Fourth be with you”).

The cereal consists of puffed corn in the shape of X-wings and Tie Fighters, along with marshmallows shaped like Yoda’s head, a storm trooper helmet and light sabers. The company said that the shapes will evolve over time — likely once the new films come out, the cereal will adopt those designs.

Watch for two limited edition package designs featuring Yoda and Darth Vader in June. And then two new package designs in October, along with two more in February 2016.

“The ideas stemmed from our team’s desire to bring even more fun to the cereal aisle,” says Alan Cunningham, innovation marketing manager, according to General Mills’blog. “Star Wars is as big as it gets and continues to thrive in appeal to fans young and old.”

The box designs are limited edition, so be sure to collect them all. The cereal will stick around and evolve as each additional Star Wars movie is released.

“We’re thrilled about how great the cereal tastes and how fun it will be to be a part of some of the Star Wars excitement,” says Alan.

The new Star Wars cereal is the latest in a long tradition of General Mills’ partnership with the Rebel Alliance. In 2002, they featured a limited edition Star Wars Episode II cereal.
