Grupo Bimbo Acquires UK Baker St Pierre Groupe

Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest bakery company, has acquired St Pierre Groupe in a deal worth more than GBP300m, reports The Grocer.

The deal is expected to accelerate the already rapid growth of the brioche maker in the US and fuel further international expansion. A spokeswoman for St Pierre Groupe confirmed the business had been bought in its entirety but would continue to operate independently.

Grupo Bimbo acknowledged the deal for St Pierre Groupe in its third-quarter results but did not provide any other commentary.

The Manchester-based St Pierre Groupe won £8m investment from BGF in November 2018 which helped it to kickstart its international growth.

Grupo Bimbo recently sold its confectionery business, Ricolino, for approximately USD1.3bn, to Mondelez International. With approximately USD500m in annual revenue, Ricolino employed close to 6,000 associates, has four manufacturing facilities and distributes its products to several channels, including traditional trade, supermarkets, convenience stores and others. Its brands are leaders in lollipops, marshmallows, chocolates, gummies and other confectionery products and have more than 50 years’ history in Mexico.
