British Bakels is relaunching the Renshaw Cup after a 21-year break, aiming to spotlight the next generation of bakers and cake decorators in the UK. The competition will be held from 8–10 July 2025 at the Liverpool headquarters of Renshaw, one of the UK’s leading cake decoration brands.
First introduced in 1952 by company founder John Renshaw, the Renshaw Cup has a legacy of launching successful careers in the baking industry. This year’s event will see 20 promising students from baking colleges across the UK take part in a three-day final, featuring technical and creative challenges, expert tutorials, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the commercial facility.
Notable past winners include Steve Fulford, now Lead Technical Manager at British Bakels, and Suzanne Thorpe, founder of The Frostery. Both will attend this year’s event alongside John Renshaw, who will present the award.
James Cawthorne, Managing Director at British Bakels, commented: “Renshaw has been part of British baking for over a century, and we’re thrilled to bring back this iconic event to support young talent. This is a brilliant opportunity to inspire innovation and ensure the sustainability of baking as a skilled trade.”
The Renshaw Cup marks a renewed commitment from British Bakels to invest in the future of the industry—from artisan producers and cake specialists to grocery retailers.
