Global bakery manufacturer and ingredient supplier Dawn Foods has announced the winners of its annual Sweetest Bakery in America and Sweetest Bakery in Canada contests. More than 1,200 bakeries participated in the competitions across the U.S. and Canada.
Now in its third year, the competition invited communities across the U.S. and Canada to cast their vote (from July 1 to September 30) and help their favorite bakery win the title of Sweetest Bakery in America and Sweetest Bakery in Canada. The annual contest continues to grow in popularity receiving over 1.4 million votes via text and online throughout the contest. Participating customers also saw up to 9% sales growth throughout the contest.
This year, Sweet Crunch Bakeshop earned the title of Sweetest Bakery in America. The bakeshop, which operates its business via a food truck, recently relocated to New Hampshire after nearly 17 years in Vermont. After changing the location, the owners say that Sweet Crunch is now more accessible than ever and is focused on bringing its popular cookies, donuts and bakery items to customers throughout New Hampshire and around the country.
“Picking up and moving my bakery last year was not an easy decision, but the outpouring of support I have received from Southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts has been incredible. We want to thank our customers for supporting us throughout this contest and making us feel right at home. This recognition is a testament to what you can do when you set your mind to a new venture and shows bakeries of all shapes and sizes that anything is possible,” said Debbie Burritt, owner of Sweet Crunch Bakery.
For the second year in a row, Dooher’s Bakery of Campbellford, Ontario, received the top spot as the 2019 Sweetest Bakery in Canada. The bakery has served the southern Ontario community for almost 70 years and is focused on creating and refining family recipes.
“To be named the Sweetest Bakery in Canada for the second year in a row is an incredible feeling. As a fourth-generation bakery, we know the support of our local community is key to our success and we cannot thank everyone enough for voting for us again this year. My grandparents started the bakery 70 years ago with just two little wood-burning ovens and today we have grown to a staff of more than 30 – I know they would be incredibly proud of this recognition and where we are today,” said Cory Dooher, owner of Dooher’s Bakery.
Both Sweet Crunch Bakeshop and Dooher’s Bakery will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to participate in a workshop with Dawn’s Senior Bakery Application Chef, Melissa Trimmer CEPC. She has more than 20 years’ experience working in top hotels, leading restaurants, food distributors, a renowned culinary school, and has done consulting work for national and international accounts. During the sessions, each bakery will create custom bakery items and learn about the industry’s latest trends to incorporate new ideas into their offerings.
