Messe Stuttgart Cancels südback
Messe Stuttgart has decided to cancel this year’s edition of Südback, slated to take place from October 17 to 20, 2020. It would have been the first event of the bakery industry to take place since the pandemic restrictions began, organized to be held in the current situation. A hygiene and safety concept was developed by the organizers to ensure that the trade fair could be safely staged. However, many exhibitors showed reluctance towards the current situation in Baden-Württemberg. This uncertainty brought about a surge in cancellations, and an exhibitor survey conducted by Messe Stuttgart revealed that there is no adequate basis for südback this year.
“In the present circumstances, we are unfortunately unable to guarantee the customary and desired success for exhibitors and visitors,” said Andreas Wiesinger, a member of the Board of Management of Messe Stuttgart. “We very much regret the developments since the bakery industry is losing its central platform for exchanging information this year. This platform would have been necessary after these difficult months with the corona crisis.”
The decision was taken in close cooperation with the exhibitors and after amicable discussions with the südback partners, i.e. BÄKO Head Office of Southern Germany, the State Association of Guilds of Württemberg Bakers and the State Association of Guilds of Baden-Württemberg Confectioners.
The next südback will take place in the regular cycle from October 22 to 25, 2022.
