Retailers across Europe and beyond are introducing more innovative products and creative packaging under their own brands and anyone will have to wait until PLMA’s 2016 “World of Private Label” Trade Show, 24-25 May at the RAI Exhibition Centre, to discover which retailers have won PLMA’s International Salute to Excellence Awards.
More than 370 food and non-food products from 62 retailers in 23 countries were submitted for consideration. All the winning products were selected by a panel of professional judges. Entries were evaluated for taste, appearance, packaging, presentation, product concept, and value for money.
The 2016 International Salute to Excellence Awards have been expanded to give recognition to retailers offering private label wines. Salute to Excellence judges considered 250 wines from around the world before selecting the winning products. All the food, non-food and wine Salute to Excellence winners will be on display in the Idea Supermarket area of the Trade Show.
Brian Sharoff, President of PLMA, said: “This year’s International Salute to Excellence Award winners demonstrate again that today’s retailers are committed to understanding consumer trends and responding with products that meet the changing needs of their shoppers.”
Consumer trends will be the focus of two expert presentations at pre-show seminar program held May 23 at the RAI forum room. Jean-Jacques Vandenheede, Retail Insight director Europe, The Nielsen Company, will give an overview of the latest country-by-country market share data for private label. “Top Global Consumer Trends” will be the topic examined by Daphne Kasriel-Alexander, Consumer Trends Consultant, Euromonitor International. Seminar presentations are translated into English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Trade show visitors can see private label ranges from more than 60 retailers around the world displayed on gondolas at the Idea Supermarket. This year the Idea Supermarket has been expanded and will feature a special information area that focuses on the latest developments in product ingredients. Another new area shows creative television commercials that retailers are using to promote their own brands.
PLMA’s “World of Private Label” is the world’s largest trade show for private label. The theme for this year’s event is “Private Label is People,” highlighting the private label experience of the manufacturers and retailers who will be attending.
