südback Trend Award: Proving the Power of Innovation

As the südback Trend Award will be offered for the 11th time in 2017, the organizers consider it to be the proof that the bakery and confectionery trades in the German-speaking region need not fear for their future.

The closing date for applications for the südback Trend Award is May 31; the prize-giving ceremony will take place at the opening of südback 2017, at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre (September 23).

The companies can apply for the three categories of the südback Trend Award, presenting fresh ideas and their new products:

  1. The category “Marketing, sale and organization” covers themes related to shop construction/business equipment, packaging, merchandise, EDP and cash register systems.
  2. The second group includes raw materials and convenience, for example flour, flavors, oils and fats, fillings, deep-frozen products and coffee.
  3. The third section is about the full range of working and operating technology. A specialist jury evaluates criteria such as degree of innovation, benefit to users and user-friendliness, application with economically viable costs, functionality and operational safety, as well as environmental compatibility/recycling and hygiene.

The products entered must be developed to market readiness, but must not have been on the market for longer than one year.

Andreas Kofler, managing director of the State Association of Guilds for Württemberg Bakers, says: “The high-quality entries and great interest in this prize impressively demonstrate how active and strong this sector is. Winning the südback Trend Award is an accolade for outstanding achievements and is highly coveted by the companies. With the prize, the winners can draw attention to their products and the progress in the sector becomes visible.”

The competition for the südback Trend Award is organized by Messe Stuttgart and supported by the Allgemeine BäckerZeitung (ABZ) and the BÄKO magazine. The co-organizers are the BÄKO Head Office of Southern Germany and the Regional Association of Guilds of Württemberg Bakers.
