ADM Milling, a renowned leader in flour and bakery ingredients, has successfully modernized its production-critical control panels at their Corby mill, thanks to the expertise of OAL, a trusted industry partner. The seamless upgrade, completed without any unplanned downtime, marks a significant milestone in ensuring continued operational efficiency and product quality for ADM Milling.
Upgrading control panels from the 1980s poses substantial challenges, particularly for businesses like ADM Milling, which rely heavily on uninterrupted production. Recognising the critical nature of the situation, ADM Milling entrusted OAL based on their reputation for reliability, ability to meet stringent deadlines, and unwavering commitment to customer-centric solutions.
The project aimed to replace the outdated MCP12 control panel overseeing three flour packing lines. Despite facing complexities inherent in dealing with aged equipment and evolving operational needs, OAL executed the upgrade flawlessly. The new control panel not only ensures reduced downtime and simplified maintenance but also meets the latest electrical standards while incorporating additional functionalities.
Piers Marston, from ADM Milling UK, commended “OAL showed excellent health and safety whilst on-site. They were a respectful team and a diligent workforce with high standards. Nothing was too much trouble for the team and there was no noise on the project!”
Challenges arose due to the lack of comprehensive documentation for the original control panel and the need to reuse existing field devices and cabling. However, OAL’s meticulous planning and execution, following their proven methodology, “The OAL Way,” ensured a smooth transition. The project involved extensive survey work, design, software modifications, factory testing, and meticulous on-site installation within a tight 14-day window.
Since the successful completion of the project, ADM Milling has experienced zero electrical component failures, ensuring future reliability and compliance with regulations. The incorporation of modern equipment is expected to significantly reduce downtime and streamline maintenance processes, further enhancing operational efficiency.
