The US Food and Drug Administration has extended the deadline for comments, scientific data and information on acrylamide in food.
The FDA, which is considering issuing guidance on the reduction of acrylamide levels in food products, has extended the deadline to 25 January 2010.
A spokesperson said: “The agency believes that this extension allows adequate time for interested persons to submit comments without significantly delaying action by the agency.”
Acrylamide is a chemical that may form in some foods during certain types of high-temperature cooking. It has been found to be carcinogenic in rodents, and may be a carcinogen for humans.
