König Reviews interpack and Industry Trends

interpack has proven to be the largest scale event showcasing trends and innovations with an influence on the industry globally, among Europe’s trade fairs this spring. European Baker learned what makes the show dedicated to packaging and related processing industries a must-attend event in the exhibitors’ perspective.

The triennial trade fair in Germany comprised all innovations in packaging and processing technologies, including those pertaining to processing of potato products. We’ve asked the König what interpack means for them.

EB: How many times have you attended/exhibited at interpack and what are the reasons for choosing to be present at Messe Düsseldorf?

König: We have been exhibiting for the second time at Interpack. This show has a very different target group from our other exhibitions. We usually attend shows mainly for the baking industry where we exhibit our newest machines and daily productions of rolls on these machines. Interpack has a wide-spread, global target group; we focused our show appearance on giving information and becoming more established with non-bakery businesses.

EB: What is the key feature showcased at your stand this year, if you were to pick only one?

König: We exhibited a component of our dough laminating line Menes – the high performance guillotine, which is already successfully installed at a German customer. The guillotine stands for high cutting forces and exact cutting, even with products which have a great dough string height. This component enables the production of filled pasta (e.g. Tortellini), filled food or pet food and can be assembled to existing production lines.

EB: What are your thoughts on the evolution of bakery and confectionery industry applications, in terms of packaging and processing, on short to mid-term?

König: For our customers, it becomes more important to not only produce fresh baked goods, but also half-baked or frozen dough pieces which can be freshly baked in the individual bakeries or supermarket stores. This means that our machines have to provide the necessary product quality for the subsequent packaging, transporting and baking of the bread products.

For our customers, it becomes more important to not only produce fresh baked goods, but also half-baked or frozen dough pieces which can be freshly baked in the individual bakeries or supermarket stores.

In terms of packaging and processing, we also focus on high weight accuracy, which will be highly essential in the future. This is why we developed the dough dividing and rounding machine Industrie Rex AW (=accurate weight), which offers a weight tolerance of +/- 1 % at 100 % production quantity.

EB: What are the direct benefits of exhibiting at interpack, in your experience?

König: Being present to a very large, wide-spread international target group.

EB: Please name one highlight of the show you were most impressed with.

König: Unfortunately, there is not one specific highlight we could mention; the show itself was probably the most impressive. The size and visitor numbers of this event are beyond imagination and such a good organization of the show is highly impressive, to say the least.

We’ve asked more exhibitors – including the Haas Group, Multivac; Tanis Food Tec and Zeppelin (alphabetically listed in their answers) what interpack means for them. Read their insight on the fair and the industryin European Baker – May/June issue.
