SIGEP 2015 decides Italy’s top pastry chefs

Rimini Fiera is organizing the 36th edition of the SIGEP International Exhibition of artisan gelato, pastry, confectionery and bakery production, for which 175,000 trade members are awaited from all over the world, between January 17 and 21.  

The the Italian pastry chefs will be elected at the Italian Pastry Championships scheduled during the fair trade. In the Pastry Arena (Hall B5) on Monday 19 January, the spotlight will be on the great Italian pastry Masters, who will compete for the title of Italian Senior Pastry Chef. The nine finalists will fight it out on the theme “Pastry-making – core characteristic”, interpreting and anticipating the best of Italian-made products.

The following day, Tuesday, young pastry chefs will compete for the Italian under- 23 Junior championship. The creative fantasy of youngsters from all over Italy will be inspired by an icon of youth and style – the Vespa – which will be presented in an original innovative manner with artistic sugar and chocolate creations, in sync with the tests set by the contest. The six contestants will be three men and three women.

The Pastry Arena´s tiered seating will be packed with a large audience of trade professionals, watching the competitions.

175,000 trade visitors, 35.000 of whom will be from abroad, are expected to attend SIGEP. 

2014 in figures 

There was therefore a 20.1 per cent overall increase in visitors – going against the international expo scenario´s trends and featuring an even more substantial performance as far as the figures regarding foreign trade visitors (from five continents) were concerned, which rose to 34,646: an increase of 32 per cent. Other significant figures: over 600 accredited journalists, 134 million contacts reached with articles and reports by agencies, daily papers, radio and TV, web and trade press.
