Partnership with H-E-B Stores Saves Baking Business in Texas

Bread Man Baking, a Houston – TX business, has partnered with the supermarket chain H-E-B. 

Bread Man Baking’s artisan breads can now be found at 14 local H-E-B stores. The timing couldn’t be better, the owner said, as the business declined 78% when government orders forced restaurants to close their dining rooms. Bread Man Baking is best known as a wholesaler that supplies sourdough, baguettes, and other breads to top Houston restaurants, but pivoting to selling its products in grocery stores allows the company to keep baking, according to houston.culturemap.com. 

“They came as a savior to us, to be honest. It’s a bittersweet time, but I’m filled with gratitude and hope from this new union. Scott McClelland and H-E-B saved my business,” Bread Man founder and CEO Tasos Katsaounis, said in a statement.

H-E-B is also involved in campaigns to help Texan people in need during the coronavirus crisis (COVID-19). In addition to the more than USD3m, H-E-B has donated to Texas nonprofit organizations supporting the vulnerable communities, and it will deliver 24 truckloads of product to food banks across the Lone Star State. This donation will provide half a million meals to 13 Texan food banks and include much-needed food items such as chicken and bread as well as H-E-B Meal Simple kits, chef-prepared meals for the family, the chain announced.
