Officials with Aunt Millie’s tell ABC21 that the final day of operations for the company’s downtown Fort Wayne (Indiana, USA) bakery has been set for April 12.
The company confirmed last November that it intended to cease baking operations at that location this spring, meaning the loss of about 90 positions. Aunt Millie’s will maintain its corporate headquarters in Fort Wayne, with about 120 related jobs.
Thrift stores and sales operations in the city will continue unaffected.
After the closure of the Fort Wayne bakery, Aunt Millie’s will produce goods at six regional locations, from which it will supply grocery stores in northeast Indiana and elsewhere.
“The company is appreciative to its hard-working employees for their many years of service,” a spokeswoman said in a statement on Monday. “Some employees have been able to transfer to other company locations, and most have been offered jobs locally. We would like to extend our thanks to the great Fort Wayne companies who reached out and hired them.”
The move to close the Fort Wayne bakery is part of a consolidation of operations meant to reduce excess capacity and lower costs.
