General Mills to sell one facility and close other two

General Mills Inc has recently announced important changes in its factories. The sale of its Green Giant and Le Sueur vegetable businesses to B&G Foods, Inc., has been completed for USD 765 million in cash plus an inventory adjustment at closing of approximately USD 58 million.

General Mills announced the sale agreement on September 3, 2015. General Mills will continue to operate the Green Giant business in Europe and select other export markets under license from B&G Foods.

This is not the only decision announced lately; General Mills mentioned the possibility to close the manufacturing facility in Berwick, United Kingdom. The proposal is subject to consultation with union officials and employee representatives, which could lead to the closure of the site by the autumn of 2016. If implemented, closure of the site would affect approximately 265 employees.

The Berwick facility manufactures baking mixes and refrigerated and frozen dough products. It has been operated by General Mills since 2001.

A similar announcement has been made for a plant in East Tamaki, New Zealand.

The preliminary decision is subject to consultation with union officials and employee representatives. If the decision becomes final, the company would expect the facility to close by the end of this calendar year.

The closure, were the decision to become final, would impact 20 employees.

The East Tamaki facility manufactures produces fresh pasta, sauces, and refrigerated soup products. It has been operated by General Mills since 2002.
