IBIE Preview: Stäubli Robotics Puts Automation on Display

Stäubli Robotics will be in Booth 7255, demonstrating fully hygienic high-speed industrial robots used to automate a range of baking applications from primary processing to final packaging.

At IBIE, Stäubli will present two demonstrations, featuring its Red Dot Award-winning TS2-80 and TX2-90 HE (Humid Environment) robots. The TS2-80, a four-axis SCARA robot, will package donuts in a high-speed pick-and-place operation. This will highlight the robot’s precision, as it delicately yet firmly picks up the donuts using the mGrip soft gripper from Stäubli partner Soft Robotics, and places them into their packaging. This task relies on the robot’s path tracking and machine vision, via the TriSpector 1000 3D laser scanner from another Stäubli partner, SICK, which it uses to “see” the products. Stäubli’s VALtrack software enables the robot to interpret what it sees and handle different product types. This allows for greater flexibility along with unwavering repeatability.

The six-axis TX2-90 HE robot will cut cake into perfectly uniform slices using an ultrasonic blade from Stäubli partner Dukane. This cutting technology uses high-frequency sound vibrations to process food more quickly and cleanly. Stäubli’s HE series robots set the standard in food industry automation with their unique hygienic design. A fully encapsulated structure with detergent- and corrosion-resistant coating makes them ideal for applications in primary environments such as handling, cutting and trimming, where food safety is especially crucial.

All HE robots are designed for wet/humid environments and full wash-down applications, featuring:

  • Fully enclosed and pressurized structure to prevent microorganism penetration and avoid condensation
  • Hygienic design with smooth, rounded and tilted surfaces to eliminate liquid retention
  • Fully compatible with NSF H1 food-grade lubricant without loss of performance
  • Protected against pressure jets of water (IP65) and immersion (IP67)
  • Crucial components in stainless steel with special coating to withstand extreme conditions
  • No external cables – all connections routed through the arm and base
  • Unique, cylindrical envelope and small footprint
  • Patented Stäubli proprietary JCS gearbox for accuracy, repeatability and durability
