The third edition of Tiptree World Bread Awards is seeking for professional and home bakers, offering a prize of GPB 1,000 and a selection of KitchenAid gadgets.
The Judging panel for 2015 hosts a plethora of industry experts; Charles Geary, National Chairman of the ABST and 6 times Champion Baker of England, Colin Lomax, Former Technical Manager, Rank Hovis, David Roberts, Chairman of the Bread Advisory Panel Flour Milling and Baking Research Association and Andrew Whitley, Founder of the Real Bread Campaign
Assisted by Deputy Chair, Hugh Weeks, the Chairman of the Judges is once again Stephen Hallam, Master Baker, and Managing Director of Dickinson & Morris and the illustrious awards are also supported by the Craft Bakers Association, the Scottish Bakers, the Real Bread Campaign and Worshipful Company of Bakers.
The awards are now open to entries and the judging will take place in September.
The Tiptree World Bread Awards are open to all producers of bread sold commercially. However, the Home-Baker categories are only open to amateur bakers that mean competitors who are entering items that are not produced for commercial gain.
The organizers explain the bread must be baked ready for eating on arrival. Bread that is uncooked, damaged or technically unsafe will be rejected and therefore not judged. The bread must be delivered fully baked and ready to eat by 12 noon on September, 16, to Westminster Cathedral Hall, Ambrosden Avenue, LondonSW1P 1QG.
As the winner of the Tiptree World Bread Awards 2015, a competitor can win:
- GBP 1,000 cash prize
- KitchenAid Artisan 6.9L Stand Mixer
- KitchenAid Artisan Two Slice Toaster
- KitchenAid Artisan 1.5L Kettle
- In addition, the winner will be invited to attend the Awards evening at St John’sHyde Park, London W2 along with industry experts and leading figures from the world of food and drink.
The categories of the content are:
1 Sourdough
Traditional bread made with a starter of a small amount of dough in which fermentation is active
2 Wholegrain
Textured bread prepared from unrefined cereal grains such as barley, whole cornmeal, whole wheat, brown rice, oats, bulghur and buckwheat
3 Ciabatta
Moist Italian bread made with olive oil which has large air holes
4 Gluten Free
Bread of any variety, but must be made with gluten-free flour and gluten-free yeast
5 Baguette
Bread baked into a long, thin loaf. A traditional baguette has a crispy brown crust and a light, chewy interior.
6 Real Bread Campaign
Bread made in accordance with the criteria of the Real Bread Campaign that is ‘made without the use of processing aids or any other artificial additives.’ (which includes most flour ‘improvers’, dough conditioners and preservatives), chemical leavening (e.g. baking powder)
7 Great British White
Made with 100% white flour, bloomer, cobbler or tin this everyday favorite can come in any shape or size.
8 Fruit
Any bread containing fruit, from hot crossed buns to plum loaf
9 Flatbread
Breads made from usually unleavened dough and baked in flat loaves. From pitta to naan, focaccia to tortilla
10 Speciality
An open category for you to show us your own unique creations, sweet or savoury, anything goes!
11 The Tiptree Showstopper
For the best and most creative bread using a Tiptree product as an ingredient
12 Home-Baker – Sourdough
A traditional bread made with a starter of a small amount of dough in which fermentation is active, this category is especially for all of our Home-Baker sourdough enthusiasts! Entrants to this category must be considered amateur bakers according to the Rules of Entry and the use of bread machines is not permitted
13 Home-Baker – Open
Brown or white, fruit or plain, whatever takes your fancy. Entrants to this category must be considered amateur bakers according to the Rules of Entry and the use of bread machines is not permitted
14 KitchenAid Young Baker
Two free-to-enter categories for our future Master Bakers to let their imaginations run wild! Age categories 12 – 17 and Under 12
Maximum 3 entries per Young Baker
