Starting as a trade fair dedicated to the German-speaking countries, südback has succeeded to become more and more international. With 37,126 specialist visitors in 2017, südback brought to Stuttgart 5,940 from 80 countries. At the meantime, the 650 exhibitors came from 20 countries.
Moreover, 55% of the visitors that time had the intention to make investments up to EUR20,000, while 24% of them up to EUR100,00 and 20% of more than EUR100,000.
Comparing to the edition in 2017, this year’s exhibiting space will be bigger and will have a different structure. In addition to Halls 5, 7 and 9, the Oskar Lapp Hall (Hall 6) and the Alfred Kärcher Hall (Hall 8), südback will also occupy the new Paul Horn Hall (Hall 10). Overall, the amount of exhibition space will increase by 10,000sqm. This also means that a wider range of products and services will be offered. The new hall constellation will promote a circulating flow of visitors around the trade fair grounds, the organizer Messe Stttutgart says.
Because südback was not only a business hub, but also a place to approach the challenges within the industry, the industry leaders in bakery showed that one of the biggest issues facing bakeries is finding apprentices and trainees, both in production and sales.
Today, the trade fair speaks more about the technological challenges and the necessity to align to the markets requirements and consumers demand.
Industry Leaders Coming Back to südback
Participants at südback 2017, industry leaders are happy to return in Stuttgart for a new edition of the trade fair.
“The trade fair attendance was excellent; there was a good atmosphere and a great crowd of visitors. Even early in the day, all our tables were occupied and there was a great mood for buying. It was perfect!,” said Robert Maaßen, managing director of Vandemoortele Deutschland GmbH.
“südback is the most important trade fair for us in Germany, for this is where we primarily meet artisanal bakers and medium-sized companies. Also for exports, the trade fair is becoming increasingly significant, as it has long been not just a purely German trade fair: we had Russians, Brazilians, Croatians and Poles at our stand. It’s also good for the Rondo Group to be here on location. We’re at südback every time and we’ll definitely come again!” added Michael Becker, managing director at RONDO GmbH & Co KG.
“südback is the only large trade fair that we attend. For our company, above all the German/Austrian/Swiss market is interesting, and this is where we meet precisely the public we are looking for, both in the area of bakery/ confectionery and also with regard to service. südback is the most important trade fair in the German-speaking region – and it’s becoming increasingly international: Among others, we had customers from South America and Canada at our stand,” commented Jochen Falk, marketing department at Dawn Foods Germany GmbH.
“südback has become an important pillar for us. That’s why we’ve been coming for many years, this time in a great cooperation arrangement with Kramer Ladenbau (shop construction company). We were able to present ourselves well in Stuttgart, and pass the ball to each other – which, by the way, also applies for Sales, as most bakers are today looking for complete solutions. Our joint trade fair appearance, therefore, resulted in a lot of positive feedback. Altogether, it was a win-win situation for everyone, not least for the customers,” Tobias Worf, marketing manager at Seeberger GmbH, stressed.
“südback has become a leading trade fair which is also increasingly important for Austria, Switzerland and the Benelux countries and is developing to become a hub for the entire sector. In Stuttgart, you could feel that for some time now, there has been a new spirit of optimism. In any case, the opportunities for handcraft companies are currently very good,” said Susanne Neumüller, managing shareholder at Schweitzer Ladenbau AG.
“As a universalist, at this südback, MIWE focused more on the theme of snacks. This market is developing fantastically well, the trend is clear. We were able to offer our customers the entire range of applications. There was keen interest, and we got lots of queries. We met precisely the public that we were looking for, and we’re very satisfied with the way the trade fair went,” Armin Werner Department Manager at MIWE Michael Wenz GmbH, concluded.
