Over 180 companies will be presenting their solutions and novelties in packaging technology and materials at iba, with over 50 exhibitors bundled in this dedicated section. Everything here revolves around packaging solutions, processes and materials for wholesale bakeries, dough manufacturers, trade, and the confectionary and supply industry.

Novelties in Packaging
Exhibitors at iba will be showcasing their machines as well as complete solutions and components that meet all packaging requirements, from logistics to transport challenges, to product preservation, and in compliance with food safety regulations. These range from tubular bag machines, thermoforming and film packaging solutions, bag filling and closing machines, multi-pack systems, feeder systems, bread and bun packaging machines, labels and labelling machines, and corresponding packaging materials.
Visitors can look forward to numerous novelties and premieres. For instance, ILAPAK is unveiling two brand new flow-wrapping solutions for the bakery industry. The Carrera 5000 meets demand from middle-tier bakeries for a robust, easy to maintain machine that offers the same in-line integration and performance capabilities as a top-of-the-range flow wrapper, whilst the DSA Raptor multipack collation and flow-wrapping cell can reduce cost of ownership by 20-25%, compared with conventional systems, thanks to a major breakthrough in controls integration. On the vertical side, ILAPAK has upgraded its successful Vision2000 platform with new laser height detection capabilities and design features that allow easier access for maintenance. The upgraded Vision2000 will make its debut at iba, where it will be shown together with the Vegatronic 2000 Open Frame (OF) as part of a complete bagging line for bread rolls.
MULTIVAC will showcase a complete range of solutions for packaging bread, bakery products, biscuits and snacks. In addition, the company will also present two chamber machines, a compact thermoforming packaging machine and a tray sealer. “In the bakery industry, there is a clear trend away from frozen products and towards MAP packs,” explains Tanja Nickels, press and public relations manager at MULTIVAC. Various compact machine models for producing MAP packs will be presented at the trade fair.
HARTMANN will also exhibit the automatic packaging machine GBK 440 that enables the tight-fitting, secure packaging and sealing of product bags in a single operation. The design of the device meets a wide variety of customer requirements, the producer says. Directly driven product pushers fill prefabricated bags with pre-grouped baked goods of all kinds. Clip closures, Kwik-Lok or welding seals are alternatives for closing systems, a combination of which is also possible The product area is arranged separately from the drive space. Thanks to the special drive concept, even complex requirements can be met in terms of control technology. The latest sensor technology, control technology and user interfaces create the basis for the implementation of internationally diverse requirements also for the clean room operation in the industrial production of baked goods.
Bosch Packaging Technology will be presenting various machines, including a roller former for bar production and a flow wrapping line for pastries with a robotized feeder. The trend shows an increasing demand for flexibility of process and packaging machines as well as complete solutions that are optimized for gentle product handling and high food safety. Bosch has developed a two-in-one biscuit packaging system to address this problem, a flow wrapper that is very gentle with the biscuits and that has significantly minimized waste.
WITT-Gasetechnik will presents LEAK-MASTER MAPMAX, which features non-destructive detection of even the smallest leaks using CO2 as a trace gas – a 100% testing method connected directly to the packaging process. Thus, not a single leaking package gets to the customer. The machine places the packages or shipping case in the test chamber.
