Markem-Imaje Showcases GS1 Digital Link at Fachpack 2025

Markem-Imaje will highlight the benefits of GS1 Digital Link technology at Fachpack 2025 in Nuremberg, Germany, from 23–25 September. Visitors to stand 3C-531 will be able to see how the next generation of QR codes can improve production efficiency, supply chain transparency, inventory management and consumer engagement.

The shift toward 2D barcodes is accelerating as regulations such as the EU Digital Product Passport, Digital Deposit Return Schemes and the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act come into force. GS1 Digital Link, the latest evolution of barcode technology, connects product identifiers such as Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), batch number, best-before date and serial number directly to the internet. This enables real-time access to information across business and consumer channels, supporting traceability, authenticity, sustainability reporting and ecommerce integration.

Unlike traditional packaging that relies on multiple codes for different purposes, GS1 Digital Link consolidates these into a single QR code. This reduces complexity and allows packaging to support point-of-sale systems while also delivering dynamic digital content. Retailers can benefit from improved inventory accuracy, reduced waste and flexible pricing; brands can enhance traceability, regulatory compliance and recall management; marketers can gain access to first-party data and personalised engagement tools. Consumers, meanwhile, gain instant access to product information, sustainability credentials and tailored offers.

By transforming packaging into a digital gateway, GS1 Digital Link enables stronger connections between brands, retailers and consumers. Fachpack visitors will be able to see live demonstrations of how the technology can be implemented and scaled in FMCG supply chains.
