PIPA Introduces New Digital Extruder Platform

PIPA LLC has introduced its new Digital Extruder platform, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution integrating generative artificial intelligence and multi-physics simulation to streamline food product development. The innovative platform connects formulation directly to production, enabling consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturers to enhance efficiency and rapidly respond to consumer preferences for healthier, more affordable, and tastier food items.

Part of the PIPA Operating System (OS), the Digital Extruder leverages advanced computational fluid dynamics, machine learning, and food chemistry modeling to digitally simulate complex food processing techniques such as extrusion, baking, and fermentation. According to Chris Stamelos, CTO of PIPA LLC, this approach facilitates thousands of scenario analyses within seconds, significantly reducing research and development timelines while improving product sustainability and consistency.

Technical Lead Dimitris Sfondilis emphasized the importance of integrating deep food science knowledge into AI-driven systems, highlighting that technology alone is insufficient for addressing complexities in food manufacturing. Early adopters in the snacks, confectionery, and pet food sectors have already reported substantial improvements, including shorter innovation cycles and optimized ingredient usage, resulting in cost savings and reduced variability.

The Digital Extruder’s launch reflects an industry shift towards integrating AI and science-driven solutions to accelerate innovation and address evolving market demands effectively.
